LONDON - British police have released a transcript of an interview with Jimmy Savile in which the disgraced late BBC entertainer vehemently denied allegations of sexual abuse and said his accusers were only after money.

Savile died in 2011 at age 84. Since then, he has been accused of hundreds of sex crimes and it has become clear that similar allegations had dogged Savile long before his death.

Police on Tuesday published the transcript of a 2000 interview with Savile in which the popular TV host dismissed an accuser's claims as "out of the question."

Savile told officers he had "no need to chase girls" or "take liberties with them," because as a host of popular TV shows, "what you don't do is assault women, they assault you."
