LONDON - British police say they will not charge a man arrested in connection with the murder of his brother and three others in the French Alps in 2012, citing insufficient evidence.
While U.K. police don't name suspects until they are charged, when a 54-year-old man was arrested and questioned in June on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, the prosecutor in the French town of Annecy identified him as Zaid al-Hilli.
His brother, Saad al-Hilli, the brother's wife, an elderly relative and a cyclist were shot dead near Annecy in September 2012. The couple's two young daughters survived and are the only known witnesses.
Surrey Police said Wednesday there is insufficient evidence to charge Zaid al-Hilli with a crime and no further action will be taken. The crime remains unsolved.
