Environmental Assessment Office completes Ajax Mine application review

KAMLOOPS - A decision on the proposed Ajax Mine in Kamloops is slowly getting closer.

The Environmental Assessment Office says it has completed reviewing the mine's application and has referred KGHM's application for an environmental assessment certificate to the appropriate provincial ministries.

The Environment and Climate Change Strategy Minister and the Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources have up to 45 days to decide whether or not to issue a certificate, or if further assessment is required.

Kamloops City Council voiced its concerns in August over a report released by B.C.'s Environmental Assessment Office on the proposed Ajax Mine. Some councillors said they felt concerns about the potential environmental impact of the proposed mine were being ignored.

The mine would be located at the city's southern border.
