Environment Canada calls for ideal Halloween weather in Okanagan

FILE PHOTO - It's the great peach pumpkin on Penticton's Okanagan Lake waterfront.

While it may be a little chilly for the trick or treaters in the Okanagan this Halloween evening, the rest of Canada has it much worse.

Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says it should be an almost perfect Halloween in the Okanagan with patchy cloud, light winds and evening temperatures in the 2 to 4 Celsius range.

"Nothing strikes me as bad about tonight's forecast," Lundquist says.

Nationally, B.C. is topping the list of the best places to trick or treat this Halloween in Canada.

Temperatures are expected to hover around the freezing mark for much of the prairies, while from Ontario east to the Maritimes a fall storm is expected to bring wind, rain and snow to much of Ontario. Conditions are expected to be so soggy in Quebec, some municipalities in that province are postponing Halloween.

The forecast calls for clearing this afternoon in the Okanagan with the wind becoming north at 20 km/h and a high around 6 C. Expect a clear sky tonight with the mercury dropping to -5 C in Vernon and Kelowna, and -3 C in Penticton.

Tomorrow morning should be mainly sunny with a mix of sun and cloud in the afternoon. North winds at 20 km/h could create a -9 C windchill in the morning, with an expected daytime high of 5 C in Vernon and Kelowna, and a high of 7 C in Penticton. The overnight low is expected to be 0 C.

The weather office is calling for a mix of sun and cloud in the Okanagan on Saturday with a high of 7 C and a low of 2 C.

Cloud moves in on Sunday with a 40 per cent chance of showers and a high of 9 C. Overnight the temperature is forecast to fall to 3 C.

The cloudy conditions continue into Monday with a high of 9 C and a low of 2 C expected.

More clouds are forecast for Tuesday with a high of 9 C and a low of 2 C.

Cloudy skies are also predicted Wednesday with a daytime high of 8 C expected.

Normal temperatures for this time of year in the Okanagan are highs of 7 C and lows of 0 C.
