WEST KELOWNA - Staff and a patron at a West Kelowna liquor store were able to take down two of three men allegedly attempting to steal liquor Monday night.

The attempted robbery took place at the Liquor Depot on Gosset Road at 9:46 p.m. on March 23, according to a media release from West Kelowna RCMP. Three men came in and attempted to steal liquor, but staff and an unknown patron were able to apprehend two of the men while the third escaped with two bottles, Mounties say.

Police say one of the suspects, age 19, punched a store employee several times during his attempt to get away. The employee was treated by first aid attendents at the scene.

The 19-year-old is being held in custody on several charges. The second man was released without charges and police are still trying to identify the third.
