The RCMP's Southeast District Emergency Response team were called out to a small community near Kamloops this weekend to assist with a call involving a man threatening to use a firearm.

Kamloops Rural RCMP were called to Savona on Saturday, Feb. 1, after receiving reports of a 46-year-old man had made threats to use a firearm on the Skeetchestn Indian Reserve.

Police determined the man was alone in his residence and was known to have firearms which was why the emergency response team was deployed to the area, according to a RCMP media release.

When officers arrived the man refused to come out of his home. Eventually, police managed to get the man out of his house at around 8 p.m. He came out unarmed.

He was then transported to a local medical facility for assessment. The firearm was seized by police for safety.
