The B.C. Emergency Alert system is going to be tested this afternoon, so get ready for a loud alert on your cellphone, and radio and TV broadcasts.
As part of Emergency Preparedness Week, the alert will be sent out at 1:55 p.m., May 7, according to a provincial government media release. The National Public Alerting System is conducting the test and will make sure that the system is ready in case of an actual emergency.
“This is a TEST of the B.C. Emergency Alert system. This is ONLY a TEST. In an emergency, this message would tell you what to do to stay safe. This information could save your life. Click for more info: www.emergencyinfobc.ca/test. This is ONLY a TEST. No action is required,” the message will read.
The alert system, which was launched on April 6, 2018, is tested twice a year.
The system was used around the province in 2023 and 2024 when tens of thousands of people had to evacuate due to wildfires.
