Fanned by heavy winds, the Embleton Mountain fire burning west of Sun Peaks grew to 250 hectares.

“We had crews on it overnight and more crews are on route,” fire information officer Noelle Kekula said today of the fire that was sparked July 9.

“It’s smoky in there but now we have more accurate mapping.”

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District has issued an evacuation order for properties in Whitecroft, and an evacuation alert is in place for properties in the Heffley Lake area.

More information on these evacuation orders and alerts can be found on the TNRD website.

The fire is burning 2.5 kilometres west of Cahilty Creek and remains out of control.
