Elite Duathlon World Championship in Penticton won by Felicity Sheedy-Ryan and Benoit Nicolas

PENTICTON - The Elite Duathlon World Championship titles have been won in Penticon by Felicity Sheedy-Ryan and Benoit Nicolas.

Australian Felicity Sheedy-Ryan and French Benoit Nicolas won the women's and men's titles in the Elite Duathlon World Championship, according to a Multisport World Championships release issued yesterday, Aug.19.

Emma Pallant, an athlete from Great Britan, was heavily favoured but Australian Felicity Sheedy-Ryan won the Elite Duathlon World Championship title in a competitive women’s field. She bested Pallant and Spain’s Margarita Garcia Canellas.

Spain’s Emilio Martin and Great Britain’s Mark Buckingham followed Benoit Nicolas in second and third place respectively. Nicolas won the men’s title in a competitive race that saw multiple lead changes and smoking fast run splits.

Lucie Picard of France won the women’s Championship and Richard Allen of Great Britain won the men’s race in the U23. The Junior Duathlon World Championship titles were won by Relia Sclabas and Cameron Richardson with Canada’s Desirae Ridenour finishing in second place, the best Canadian finish of the day.

Top Three Elite Men:

  • Benoit Nicolas (France) 1:54:20
  • Emilio Martin (Spain) 1:55:12
  • Mark Buckingham (Great Britain) 1:55:14

Top Three Elite Women:

  • Felicity Sheedy-Ryan (Australia) 2:03:57
  • Margarita Garcia Canellas (Spain) 2:05:14
  • Emma Pallant (Great Britain) 2:06:12

These three races mark the beginning of the inaugural ITU Multisport World Championships Festival with five races remaining, three with Elite, U23 and Junior racing
including Cross Triathlon, Aquathlon and Long Distance Triathlon.
