MERRITT - An electronic music festival, which has taken place at the Beaverfoot Lodge in Golden for the past six years, will be moving to a new location near Merritt next month.

The Motion Notion music festival director and producer Kevin Harper says they were told just a few months ago that they wouldn't be able to hold the festival in its usual location because it's being developed.

"We thought we would be going ahead this year at the same spot but we were told late in the season that it would be no more," Harper says, adding that it was stressful to find a new location in just a few months.

"We scoured the land all over British Columbia and Alberta and finally came through to the (location) in Merritt," he says.

The festival will be taking place at the Coldwater Fields close to the city. Harper says the festival employees spent months speaking with farmers, First Nations representatives, and government officials to find an appropriate area for the festival.

"This spot just ticked every single box," he says. "Obviously it's going to be a longer drive from some, but it's going to open the festival to B.C.'s Interior."

The electronic dance music festival will take place from Aug. 23 to 27. For a full list of the festival's performers and for ticket information, visit the festival's official website here.
