WEST KELOWNA - An elderly woman is in hospital with serious injuries after a collision between a scooter and a pickup truck yesterday afternoon.

According to a press release, Kelowna RCMP were called to the 2900 block of Benvoulin Road at 3:39 p.m. yesterday, May 9, to respond to a reported collision. They found an 80-year-old West Kelowna woman with serious injuries at the scene and they rushed her to hospital for medical treatment.

Police believe the woman was driving a motorized scooter against the flow of traffic in the bike lane. The driver of a black Ford F-150 pickup truck was entering traffic from a parking lot access laneway by making a right hand turn when the collision occurred. The scooter became partially wedged beneath the truck's front tire.

RCMP suspect the collision happened at relatively slow speeds. Alcohol and other intoxicants are not believed to be contributing factors.

Any witnesses of the accident are asked to contact Kelowna RCMP Municipal Traffic Section at 250-762-3300.
