Elderly West Kelowna man in hospital after assault

A 76-year-old man is in the hospital after he was allegedly assaulted in a West Kelowna mobile home park by a stranger earlier this week.

Several residents of a mobile home park in the 1900 block of Highway 97 in West Kelowna reported a man acting suspiciously in their neighbourhood Tuesday, April 20, prior to 9:30 p.m., according to an RCMP media release. Officers responded and found a 76-year old man with serious injuries.

The man, a resident of the park, had been assaulted by the unknown man when he attempted to speak with him.

The victim was transported to the hospital by B.C. Emergency Health Services with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, RCMP said. Police did not find the suspect.

RCMP describe the suspect as an Indigenous male between the ages of 25 and 35, 6' tall with shaggy brown hair. He was wearing a dark purple jacket, a baseball cap, and a black backpack.

Police said it is an active criminal investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880, or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or by leaving a tip online here.
