GOLDEN - An 86-year-old Golden man has died after falling during a climb at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort near Golden.

RCMP say just after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23 the man had died during an incident while climbing the Via Ferrata, a protected climing route, at the resort.

"At this point our investigation indicates the male fell while tethered to a safety rope, striking the side of the mountain," Cst. Spencer Lainchbury says in a media release.

The man died on the way to the hospital, Lainchbury says.

RCMP do not believe the death is suspicious and are assisting the B.C. Coroners Service with its investigation.
