A seven-year-old black Labrador retriever was found wandering in the West Kootenay recently and was found to be in serious need of dental surgery.

Kringle was found alone on a residential property in Grand Forks. The dog was taken to the South Okanagan SPCA then transferred to the animal centre in Kelowna, according to a press release from BC SPCA issued today, Dec. 1.

“Kringle is a very sweet old man who, based on the scars on his face, has had a very hard life,” Shannon Paille, manager of the BC SPCA’s Kelowna animal centre said in the release.

“He just wants all the attention and love he can get. He will give you one look with those big, endearing eyes and you just know he wants a cuddle.”

Veterinarians determined Kringle is hearing impaired along with his need for extensive dental surgery.

“Kringle had to go into surgery to have four teeth removed. He was also suffering from a number of teeth that were dead and ground down, as well as a chipped canine,” Paille said.

Kringle’s road to recovery had some setbacks.

“Kringle had to be taken to an emergency clinic after his sutures broke open,” she said. “He had to go back into surgery to have his gums re-sutured.”

SCPA said Kringle will be up for adoption in approximately 10 days.
