Multiple wildfires flared up near Kamloops Wednesday afternoon
The BC Wildfire Service says the cause of four of the eight new wildfires northeast of Kamloops are still under investigation while the rest are suspected to be lightning-caused.
They were discovered after a storm passed through the area yesterday afternoon, July 12, dotting the area between Heffley Creek and Adams Lake.
The largest was blaze is near Upper Cold Creek, 17 kilometres from the city. It was last measured at 10 hectares last night, according to the wildfire service.
Fire information officer Taylor Wallace said crews were attacking some of the fires with air tankers yesterday. No word yet today how big the blazes are or the wildfire service's plans to tackle them this today.
The next largest wildfire was measured at 1.5 hectares this morning near Devick Lake, while the others are less than a hectare.
To the west, a ninth wildfire was discovered near Cache Creek just off Highway 97. It was spot-sized when last assessed, but Wallace said a passing storm yesterday made access difficult for wildfire personnel.
