Early morning ice on Westside Road sends driver to hospital

WEST KELOWNA - A Vernon woman is in hospital after losing control of her vehicle in West Kelowna early Thursday morning.

The driver, a 33-year-old Vernon resident, was southbound on Westside Road just before 7 a.m. when she left the roadway and ended up in the ditch.

She was taken to hospital with injuries believed to have been sustained when the air bags deployed.

A release from RCMP says based on witness reports the road conditions were a contributing factor in the crash and investigators confirmed icy conditions at the time.

"RCMP would like to remind motorists to slow down and drive to the road and weather conditions," Const. Jesse O'Donaghey says. "At night the roadways still have the potential to ice over as the temperature continues to drop below freezing."

If you witnessed this crash and have not yet spoken to police you are asked to contact the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880.
