The Penticton Vees will be inducting Duncan Keith into their Ring of Honour.

After spending two seasons with the Penticton Panthers from 1999 to 2001 (before the team changed its name back to the Penticton Vees), the NHL and Team Canada-bound defenceman would go on to win three Stanley Cups and two Olympic gold medals. He was also named the NHL’s best defenceman for two seasons, and won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2015, according to a Penticton Vees media release.

Keith played 1,256 NHL games and scored 646 regular season points for the Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers. He was selected to play in the NHL All-Star Game four times.

While playing for Penticton, he averaged nearly a point-per-game as a defenceman – recording 118 goals or assists in 119 regular season games. He later played for the Kelowna Rockets where he helped the team win a Memorial Cup in 2004.

Also part of Keith’s induction to the Vee’s Ring of Honour will be former broadcaster Al Formo. He called more than 2,300 games between 1967 and 2012.

“We are fortunate to have great alumni that gave so much to our program and to the game itself. Both Duncan Keith and Al Formo were integral in building the foundation of Penticton Junior Hockey,” president and head coach Fred Harbinson said in the release.

“All of Penticton is proud of Al’s longevity in the sport and Duncan’s storied professional career and now they will have their names displayed forever in the rafters of the South Okanagan Events Centre.”

The ceremony will happen Nov. 23 during the Vee's home game against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.
