An RCMP officer is tending his wounds today after his patrol car was hit by an apparent drunk driver last night.

Kelowna RCMP were called to take care of one of their own at 12:30 a.m. after a man in a Dodge pickup truck slammed into the side of the police cruiser at the intersection of Richter Street and Cadder Avenue causing extensive damage to the front passenger door and quarter panel.

Police say the 27-year-old Kelowna man showed signs of impairment. Breath samples taken at the Kelowna detachment revealed he was over the legal limit.

The officer and the suspect were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Kelowna man faces potential charges of impaired driving, drive while over .08 and dangerous driving causing bodily harm. He was released on a promise to appear in court in March.

Kelowna RCMP asks anyone with information about the crash to please call the detachment at 250-762-3300 or Crime Stoppers 800-222-8477, www.crimestoppers.net or text to CRIMES (274637) ktown.
