Drunk driver crashes into cop car after fleeing from police in Vernon

VERNON - A 34-year-old woman is facing impaired driving charges after she attempted to flee from police last night.

The woman, who police say blew three times over the legal blood alcohol content limit, drove away from a police officer yesterday, Oct. 3, at about 8:30 p.m. on 30 Avenue, according to an RCMP media release. The vehicle and driver were found by another police officer a few minutes later.

"The responding officers are fortunate they were not injured during this incident, as the driver of the subject vehicle allegedly collided with a police vehicle prior to coming to a stop and being apprehended," Vernon RCMP spokesperson Const. Kelly Brett said in the release. "Operating a vehicle while impaired is a dangerous practice that compromises the safety of the community. The RCMP remains committed to removing impaired drivers from our roadways."

The unnamed woman has since been released from custody.
