A Burnaby woman was caught driving on the wrong side of the road while impaired with a flat tire early this morning.
Police received a call at around 3 a.m. today, Jan. 22, about a white KIA driving west in the eastbound lane with a flat tire on Highway 1 in North Vancouver, according to an RCMP media release.
A traffic flagger noticed the vehicle and pulled it over. When officers arrived and engaged with the driver they noticed she seemed impaired.
The woman failed a breathalyzer test and received a 90-day roadside prohibition with the car was impounded for 30 days.
“Wrong way drivers on a highway pose an extreme danger to motorists, especially when they are impaired,” North Vancouver RCMP spokesperson Const. Mansoor Sahak said in the release. “Fortunately, officers were able to act quickly and with assistance of the public were able to locate this dangerous driver before a collision occurred.”
Police ask anyone who witnesses a suspected impaired driver to call their local police when it's safe and provide as much information about the vehicle as possible, including make, model, license plate, direction of travel, driver description and how they were driving.
