Interior Health Authority has issued a drug warning after reports of multiple overdoses with severe outcomes in Cranbrook.
Most of the drugs consumed were believed to be MDMA, also known as ecstasy.
Karl Hardt, senior communications consultant with Interior Health Authority, says they can't share the number of overdoses nor describe a 'severe' outcome. He says it is to protect the privacy of the individuals and families involved.
Although the warning is issued for Cranbrook, Hardt says there's a possibility that a tainted supply could affect other areas.
"Any drugs have the potential to be tainted with fentanyl and it’s important for people in all communities who use drugs to take precautions to prevent overdose," Hardt says.
The warning is in place until March 3.
Interior Health reminds drug users to not mix drugs, don’t drink when using drugs, to ask someone to check on you, leave the door unlocked and don’t use alone. Interior Health also recommends testing your drugs before use and carrying and knowing how to use a Naloxone kit in the event of an overdose.
Interior Health offers a drug checking service, and you can go here to find one near you.
