Powder cocaine containing fentanyl, and Phenacetin has made its way into Kamloops, prompting Interior Health to issue a warning.

The health authority says stimulants contaminated with fentanyl have a high risk for overdose, while Phenacetin is an old pain reliever which is also a carcinogen.

Drug users are being advised to have their drugs checked, not to use alone and carry a Naloxone kit, or use an overdose prevention site.

More tips include,  if you feel you must use while alone, consider using the Lifeguard app, which can connect you with emergency medical dispatchers in the event of an overdose.

Across BC there has been an unprecedented amount of overdose activity and 170 deaths were recorded.
