The driver of a van who lost control on the Trans-Canada Highway east of Salmon Arm today was killed when he hit a parked trailer in a pull out.

RCMP said the single-vehicle crash happened today, Oct. 26, on Highway 1 near Kangaroo Road.

A Salmon Arm man was travelling east on the Trans-Canada when he lost control on the slippery highway and skidded across the westbound lanes, according to an RCMP media release.

The van hit a trailer parked in a pull out that was clear of the lanes of travel, RCMP said.

The driver, who has not been identified by RCMP, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“It is believed that road conditions at the time were a contributing factor leading to the collision,” Salmon Arm RCMP Staff Sgt. Scott West said in the release.

The highway was closed for a short time following the crash.
