Driver in critical condition after hitting pole in Salmon Arm

FILE PHOTO

A motorist was taken to hospital in critical condition suffering a health issue and driving his pickup into a pole in Salmon Arm this past weekend.

The man behind the wheel of a white Chevrolet pickup truck was involved in a single-vehicle collision at the corner of the Trans-Canada Highway and Shuswap Street NE at around 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 12, according to an RCMP media release.

The driver slowed for a red light, then proceeded through the intersection and hit a light pole, RCMP said.

Investigators said the driver may have had a medical episode while driving prior to the collision, due to witness testimony and evidence at the scene.

Paramedics performed CPR at the scene before transporting the man to hospital in critical condition.

RCMP continue to investigate.
