SAANICH — A driver on Vancouver Island has received a hefty fine after tossing a lit cigarette out of his car window in front of a police officer.
Chief Del Manak of the Victoria Police Department turned to social media to warn drivers about the expensive consequences of throwing out a lit cigarette from a car window.
Manak posted a photo of the ticket totalling $575 for violating the Wildfire Act. According to the police chief, the driver said his excuse was, "I didn’t want my car to burn" as he pointed to his cup holder.
Manak says he replied by saying, "Then don’t smoke in your car."
