Police have a suspect in custody after a vehicle was vandalized on Notre Dame Drive, but Kamloops RCMP are still investigating multiple reports of others being vandalized at the same location and another on the North Shore.

A security guard spotted a man Sunday morning, May 14, at a business on the 600 block of Notre Dame Drive. He damaged a vehicle at the business and police responded around 6:38 a.m., later finding the man somewhere nearby, according to an RCMP news release issued today, May 18.

“As part of the investigation, it was discovered the suspect was also wanted on an unendorsed warrant for assault causing bodily harm and uttering threats,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.

Police didn't name the business, nor specify whether it was an automotive dealership. A dealership employee confirmed the vehicles were damaged at both Zimmer Wheaton GMC and Mercedes-Benz Kamloops.

The suspect hasn't been charged in relation to the damaged vehicle.

“The suspect remains in custody for the warrants, while officers continue to work on the charge recommendation process for assessment and consideration," Cpl. Evelyn said.

The same business had 12 vehicles damaged around 11:20 p.m., May 13, and 19 were damaged, May 10, but police are still investigating whether those are related.

Another eight vehicles were "similarly" damaged at a business on the 1000 block of 8 Street, RCMP said.

Police didn't say when that incident was, nor did they describe how the vehicles were damaged.

Kamloops RCMP did, however, release a photo of a suspect in the car dealership vandalism investigation.

“We are releasing a suspect image in relation to the North Shore investigation, but at this time, it’s unknown if this incident is related to any of the others,” Cpl. Evelyn said.
