Downtown Kelowna road rage incident ends with man in hospital

KELOWNA - One man was sent to hospital unconscious after a road rage incident became violent and police are left trying to figure out what happened.

The incident happened at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 29 in the area of Bernard Avenue and Ellis Street. Police spokesperson Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey says someone called police to report two men fighting but when police arrived, a 54-year-old West Kelowna man was unconscious and a 37-year-old man from south central B.C. stuck around and cooperated with police. He was taken into custody and later released without charges.

Investigation revealed the dispute started on the road and escalated when they both stopped their vehicles and confronted each other.

“The investigation into this incident remains in its early stages as police continue to interview and seek out additional independent eye witnesses,” O’Donaghey says. “Our investigators remain focussed on piecing the sequence of events together, as they consider who is believed to be the primary aggressor in this incident.”

RCMP are urging more witnesses to come forward. If you witnesses any part of this incident and have not yet spoken to police you are asked to contact Const. Ian Grim of the Kelowna RCMP General Investigation Section at 250-762-3300.
