Downtown Kamloops visitor centre opens ahead of summer tourism season

The new downtown Kamloops visitor centre will be at the Kamloops Blazers Corner Store at the Sandman Centre.

KAMLOOPS - A new visitor centre has opened in downtown Kamloops.

Tourism Kamloops says in a news release the new location is at the Kamloops Blazers Corner Store at the Sandman Centre. It'll be open seven days a week between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. this month.

Beverley DeSantis, CEO of Tourism Kamloops, says the new location may be more convenient for some visitors.

“We want to make Kamloops as welcoming as possible during our peak season. We partnered with the City of Kamloops and the Kamloops Blazers to create a central gathering space to host visitors that may not otherwise make it up the hill to our primary visitor centre,” DeSantis says in the release. “Our downtown riverside location has been designed to make visitors feel at home in the heart of our beautiful city.”

In July and August, the centre will be open from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. DeSantis says the new centre came about through a partnership between the Rocky Mountaineer, the Kamloops Blazers and the City of Kamloops.

“We are all working together to make people’s visit to Kamloops as memorable and fulfilling as possible," she says.

Guests can receive information about the area, along with purchasing pieces from local artisans and commemorative souvenirs for Canada's 150th celebration.

Tourism Kamloops is hoping the new centre will soon have a patio atmosphere on the plaza.
