No humans were hurt in a four-plex fire this morning, Dec. 7, but one dog did not survive.

Kelowna Fire Department received several 911 calls at about 9:40 this morning reporting heavy black smoke and flame coming out of the back of the building in the 100 block of Valleyview Road.

Fire crews quickly knocked down the fire but it caused damage to half of the basement and upper suite.

Emergency support services were called in to look after seven adults, three children and numerous animals.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but isn’t deemed suspicious, states a fire department news release.
