Dog found abandoned in Vernon area receives help from Animal Food Bank

After hikers in the Vernon area found an abandoned dog, the Animal Food Bank is asking for support to help animals in a similar position.

The dog was found by hikers in the bush and was taken to groomers. The groomer then contacted the Vernon rescue and the food bank is offering its support.

"The rescue, in turn, contacted our Vernon branch manager for some much needed fur-baby shirts and some supplements," according to an Animal Food Bank social media post.

Founded in Kelowna, the Animal Food Bank aims to become a national organization promoting the sharing of resources and knowledge and promoting collaboration between organizations to feed and shelter the pets of the homeless and low-income individuals, according to its website.

"We don’t want any family to be in a position where they have to surrender their pet because they can’t afford to care for them. Pets provide our lives with so much and expect so little in return. The least we can do is help make sure the furry family members have a meal too," according to the Food Bank's website.
