The body of a missing kayaker caught in a storm on Kalamalka Lake last month and presumed drowned has been recovered.

The body of Eli Buruca, 26, was pulled from the north end of the lake in Coldstream by the RCMP underwater recovery team today, Aug, 16, according to an RCMP media release.

Buruca was paddling with a group who managed to get to the west shore of the lake. He then left them to kayak to Kal Beach but never made it.

“We would like to thank the efforts of all those who assisted with the search; especially the Rolston family who travelled to the Okanagan,” Vernon RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Tania Finn said in the release.

Meanwhile, the search for a missing fishing captain who was lost on Okanagan Lake near Ellison Provincial Park during the same storm continues, also with the help of the Rolstons.

The captain has been identified in the media as Travis Van Hill.

RCMP ask boaters stay clear of the area where divers are searching.
