Coroners' service identifies Alberta doctor as victim in B.C. diving incident

VANCOUVER - A physician from Lethbridge, Alta., has been identified as the scuba diver who died in Kootenay Lake near Kaslo, B.C., last week.

The BC Coroners Service says 46-year-old Dr. Shane Mortimer was one of four people diving near the Anscomb shipwreck when his fellow divers noticed he was in trouble.

Mortimer's diving partners attempted to rescue and resuscitate the experienced diver, which was later continued by emergency responders and hospital staff.

Despite the efforts the man couldn't be revived.

The coroners service and RCMP are still investigating his death.
