A family doctor in Lytton is expected to appear at a discipline hearing for his role in promoting misinformation related to COVID-19.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C. alleges Dr. Charles Hoffe mislead the public by giving incorrect or inflammatory information about vaccinations, treatments and public health measures related to COVID-19.

The date of Dr. Hoffe's hearing has not been set, but the misconduct dates back to April 2021 and after, according to the College website.

The hearing notice on the College website said Dr. Hoffe's alleged misconduct may have contravened the Health Professions Act, and a panel will determine a disciplinary process.

His messaging has included promoting Ivermectin as a COVID-19 treatment, along with recommending the public to obtain the parasite medication from animal feed stores, according to the College.

The College also alleges that his messaging has also included claims that COVID-19 vaccines cause blood clots that cause serious neurological harm, female infertility and a high number of deaths "that is not recognized by public health." Lastly, the College claims Dr. Hoffe has said people who are vaccinated "can cause harm" to people that are unvaccinated.
