VERNON - Firefighters put out a blaze at a recently demolished home in Vernon's north end this morning.

Vernon Fire Rescue responded to a call at 6:31 a.m. today, Oct. 19, in the 5700 block of Pleasant Valley Road near Walmart.

Capt. Colin Clarke says the owner of the residence was present and told crews that he had torn down the structure earlier this week. The owner also told firefighters there were may have been some people living in the torn down building and he suspects they started the fire.

"Arson is a hard thing to prove," Clarke says. "At this point they're (investigators are) going through to see what they can find. There's no cause determined yet."

An engine and a tanker truck responded to the blaze. Clarke says the fire was out in about an hour.
