A commercial garbage truck rear ended a Jeep this morning setting off a chain reaction collision that caused traffic delays for hours on the W.R. Bennett Bridge in Kelowna.

On April 15, just after 7:40 a.m., emergency crews were called to the William Bennett Bridge for a multi-vehicle collision.

Kelowna and West Kelowna RCMP officers responded to the bridge, where a commercial garbage truck had rear-ended a Jeep Cherokee causing a chain reaction collision involving seven vehicles, according to an RCMP press release.

Emergency health services treated occupants of all involved vehicles at scene, with one driver requiring extraction with assistance of the Kelowna Fire Department. One driver was transported to hospital with minor injuries for further medical treatment, RCMP said.

Bridge traffic eastbound was temporarily stopped as emergency crews worked to assist those injured in the collision and to remove the vehicles from the roadway. The investigation into the collision remains ongoing at this time.
