KELOWNA - The annual “Push To End Homelessness” will bring decorated shopping carts to downtown Kelowna.
On Sept. 30 in the 6th Annual, “Arthur Cottie Memorial” Push To End Homelessness will take place in downtown Kelowna. It is an annual fundraising race event for Inn from the Cold to raise social awareness and support for programs aimed at ending homelessness in Kelowna. All proceeds will go directly towards In from the Cold programs, according to an In from the Cold press release issued yesterday, Aug. 23.
“The objective of the Push to End Homelessness fundraising event is not only to raise much-needed funds for Inn from the Cold – Kelowna, but, more importantly, to raise awareness surrounding the issues of homelessness in our community,” said Jan Schulz, Executive Director, IFTC.
Teams of four to six people will push a decorated shopping cart to various checkpoints throughout Kelowna in The Push To End Homelessness race. Competitors will have to find clues and face challenges along the way.
The race will start at the In from the Cold emergency shelter on Sutherland Avenue. Competitors will have one hour to decorate their shopping carts before the ceremonial ribbon cutting by Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran. Afterwards, the teams will face challenges through the downtown core towards the finish line at Kerry Park.
A community barbeque, live music, and prizes for top fundraising team, best-decorated cart, top contenders, and more will take place at the end of the Push to End Homelessness fundraising event.
“Get together a group of co-workers, classmates, or friends and register,” said Schulz. “With five weeks to go, you still have time to get a team signed up and to collect pledges and support a great community cause.”
Inn from the Cold is a registered charity that provides support services to people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness in our community, according to the release. They provide services such as:
-
a minimum barrier emergency shelter
