Dealers in Kamloops selling fentanyl but calling it meth: Interior Health

Interior Health has issued a warning to illicit drug users in Kamloops about colourless crystals getting sold as methamphetamine.

After the substance was tested, the crystals being sold as meth proved to be sugar and fentanyl, according to the health authority.

Users are at risk of an opioid overdose, and may experience drowsiness and loss of consciousness, Interior Health said in the drug alert. Those with no opioid tolerance are at greater risk of overdose.

Interior Health reminds the public that overdose symptoms can be reversed by Naloxone.

“Start with a small amount and see how you feel before taking more,” the alert recommends.

The drug alert is in effect until Feb. 25.
