A man from Saskatchewan was caught with ounces of illicit drugs during a traffic stop in Kelowna.

It was Oct. 1 in the city’s downtown when a red 2000 Volvo was pulled over due to an outstanding inspection order, according to a release from the Kelowna RCMP.

The general officer duty, after making contact with the driver, noticed evidence of drugs in plain view.

The driver was arrested and his vehicle was searched.

A black fanny back was found containing a “significant quantity” of drugs: 215 grams of methamphetamine, 46.5 grams of cocaine, 27 grams of fentanyl and 27 grams of benzos.

The driver also had $2,330 in Canadian cash which was seized.

The types of drugs found in the Volvo are among the same ones responsible for a recent significant spike in overdoses across the Central Okanagan, RCMP said.

Police suspect there was an intention to cut the benzos with the fentanyl based on the quantity seized – and that mixture can make naloxone ineffective in the event of an overdose.
