Customers were hit with bear spray when they refused to give out their food to two people outside downtown Kelowna restaurants.

Earlier this month, a man and a woman approached two customers from the sidewalk on the 400 block of Bernard Avenue. They asked for some food, but the two customers denied them, according to a Central Okanagan Crime Stoppers news release.

When the two customers denied them, the man "aggressively" pushed the table, breaking dishes. The restaurant owner appeared and the woman pulled out and deployed a can of bear spray before they fled, according to the release.

Kelowna RCMP identified the man, but they've released an image of the pair in an attempt to spur tips and identify the woman. The photo included in the news release uses a surprised-looking emoji hiding the man's face.

The bear spray incident, around 5 p.m. on July 21, was the first of two calls to Kelowna RCMP about the couple in the same day.

Police were called later that day for an "altercation" on the 1500 block of Pandosy Street. The couple was seen yelling and throwing things, but the woman turned her attention to a nearby store owner when she tried to intervene, according to the news release.

The female suspect threw "heavy objects," intimidated the store owner and broke the store's door, according to the release.

The unidentified suspect is described as Indigenous and in her 30s. She's about 5'6" and heavier set, with long brown and blonde hair. She has tattoos on her left arm and hand.

Although police have identified the male suspect, no one has been charged in relation to either of these incidents.
