Cue the fall weather: First week of autumn includes rain in the B.C. Interior

It's about to turn very wet in British Columbia as The Weather Network says two atmospheric rivers are headed for the province this week.

The official arrival of autumn lines up with some wet weather about to inundate the province of British Columbia this week.

Environment Canada meteorologist Carmen Hartt says a pattern change coincidental with the start of fall is going to bring rain off and on for the rest of the week.

“It will bring heavy rain to the coast, and for the B.C. Interior we’re expecting an alternating pattern of showers and breaks, but quite regular showers throughout the next week,” Hartt says.

She says there is a “really good moisture plume over the Pacific ocean,” but a lot of that moisture will break down as the system passes over the B.C. Interior.

The Okanagan could see between five to 10 mm of rain tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday, while parts of the south coast could see as much as 100 mm.

Kamloops should see lesser amounts or rain, with showers expected from Wednesday through Thursday.

“It looks like another five to 10 mm possible in Kamloops and the Okanagan over the weekend,” Hartt says, as another system is expected to bring showers on Friday through Sunday.

“It’s the season for these 'atmospheric river' events.”

A warmer and drier pattern is expected to return next week.
