Crime Stoppers nears $100M mark in recovered property in Central Okanagan

Crime Stoppers has been operating in the Central Okanagan for 36 years.

Over that time it has recovered almost $100 million in cash, weapons, property and drugs, according to a Central Okanagan Crime Stoppers news release issued, Jan. 6. It has received 31,290 tips, been responsible for 3,000 arrests that cleared almost 4,000 cases.

“Crime Stoppers’ success depends completely on our promise that tipsters and the information they provide are always completely anonymous,” coordinator Glynton Brittain said in the release. “It’s a simple concept that works, empowering residents to fight back against crime by submitting an anonymous tip.”

If a tip leads to an arrest, the individual may receive a reward of up to $2,000 but almost half of the $326,000 in awards approved by the program have never been claimed.

“People just want to step up by sharing information that might help police solve a crime,” Brittain said.

People with information about crimes can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at crimestoppers.net.
