B.C. wildfire crews are gaining ground in their response to the Dry Lake wildfire burning 24 kilometres northwest of Princeton.

The wildfire service reports today, Aug. 5, 63 personnel, nine pieces of heavy equipment and three helicopters are actioning the smouldering ground fire.

The 21-hectare blaze is being held and the wildfire service doesn’t believe the fire will spread beyond existing boundaries.

Ground crews will be working to reinforce existing control lines as well as expand the fuel-free area with support from heavy equipment.

The fire was discovered Sunday, Aug. 2, and is believed to be lightning caused.

The Dry Lake fire has also prompted an evacuation alert for a number of properties in the area.
