Members of the Penticton Fire Department responded to a structure fire at the Cannery Trade Centre yesterday afternoon.
The call came in at around 2:03 p.m. yesterday, Jan. 10, according to the Regional Fire Dispatch Centre’s daily incident report.
Assistant fire chief Rob Trupp said in an emailed statement the fire was on the roof of the building.
A roofing company was doing repairs and accidentally started the small fire, he said.
“They extinguished it upon our arrival,” Trupp said in the email. “We checked for hot spots and any fire spread.”

Some of the businesses in the plaza had to be evacuated for “a very short time” because of smoke seeping into the building, Trupp said.
Once the building was ventilated everyone was allowed back in.
Crews were on scene for about an hour and six personnel responded from two stations.
