Crews attacking wildfire on Okanagan Connector near Merritt

Firefighters from the Merritt Fire Department and the B.C. Wildfire Service are responding to a wildfire on Hamilton Hill along the Okanagan Connector this afternoon.

Merritt crews were first on the scene this afternoon, June 28, with three B.C. Wildfire personnel on the way via helicopter.

The wildfire service could not estimate the size of the blaze yet, but say it is adjacent to Highway 97C and there was a request for an air tanker to attend the scene, which would take off from Kamloops Airport.

There is currently no known impact to highway traffic.

There are six active wildfires in the Kamloops Fire Centre as of June 28.

More to come.
