Crashed truck in Lake Country leads to recovery of stolen excavator

LAKE COUNTRY – RCMP recovered an excavator being hauled by a truck after it crashed on Highway 97 in Lake Country early yesterday morning.

The John Deere 60D excavator was being hauled behind a Ford F-550 truck on a trailer that collided with the centre median just south of the Oyama Road off ramp just before 5:30 a.m. yesterday, Oct. 15.

“Our investigators have determined that the truck, trailer and excavator had all been reported to police as stolen sometime over the weekend,” RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says in a media release. “Initial findings suggest that the trailer, which had damaged wheels, was not suitable to safely transport the excavator.”

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked contact Const. Allison Wanner of the Lake Country RCMP at 250-766-22878. You can remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or by leaving a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net.
