Cranbrook RCMP officers save three-legged dog from wildfire evacuated community

After a wildfire near Cranbrook forced an emergency evacuation a three-legged dog was left behind local RCMP were to the rescue.

RCMP officers were assisting the First Nations community of ?aq'am near Cranbrook, which was in immediate danger due to a rapidly spreading wildfire, according to an RCMP release.

On July 20, police learned that Three-Leg – a beloved three-legged dog – was left behind in the evacuation.

The wildfire had wreaked havoc on the community and surrounding Cranbrook area, destroying several structures and continuing to burn, RCMP said.

Three officers with the Indigenous Policing Services, Const. Alistair Peers, Const. Monte Webb, and Const. Eldene Stanley, went back into the evacuated community to find the dog.

It took multiple attempts but the three officers were able to find Three-Leg under a set of stairs.

“Const. Webb picked up Three-Leg and safely took her to the Steeples Veterinary Clinic. Thanks to the officers' efforts, Three-Leg was examined and found to be in good health," the release reads.
