A suspect assaulted a Canadian Pacific Rail police officer while he was being arrested in Kamloops on Canada Day.
The CP Rail officer tried to arrest the suspect while RCMP officers were already on the way to the scene near the 200 block of Lorne Street around 8 p.m., July 1, according to an RCMP news release.
Officers had been called to a disturbance but RCMP didn't provide details about the nature of that disturbance.
“Kamloops RCMP officers took over custody of the suspect and arrested him for assaulting a police officer,” Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release. “The CP officer sustained a non-life-threatening injury.”
No word from RCMP about the nature of the assault.
The man was taken to cells to sober up, then released with a court date and conditions. He has yet to be charged.
