COVID outbreaks declared at three more Kelowna care homes

Three facilities serving the elderly in the Kelowna have joined two others in the Central Okanagan in having COVID-19 outbreaks declared.

There are four cases at the Hawthorn Park assisted/independent living home which includes three staff and one resident, according to an Interior Health news release issued today, Aug. 12.

There are three cases at the David Lloyd Jones long-term care facility with two residents and one staff testing positive.

The Village at Mill Creek long-term care facility has two cases with one resident and one staff.

An outbreak that was declared at Brookhaven Care Centre in West Kelowna on Aug. 4 with eight cases has grown to 23, including 18 staff and five residents.

Also on Aug. 4, an outbreak was declared at Cottonwoods Care Centre with three residents testing positive. That has grown to 12 cases, including eight residents and four staff.

There are two more outbreaks in Interior Health care homes, one in Nelson and the other in Cranbrook, affecting a total of seven people.

Earlier today, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry ordered all workers in long term care facilities in B.C. to get vaccinated.
