The Interior Heath Authority has seen a decrease in COVID-19 rates compared to the previous week.

In Interior Health there have been a total of 29,281 cases since the start of the pandemic and 817 were active as of Oct. 15.

The rate of COVID-19 incidence – which combines new cases, hospitalizations and deaths – has steadily been in decline across the province. Compared to the previous week, the rate of incidence in Interior Health decreased from 145 to 109 per population of 100,000, Sept. 26 to Oct. 2. Among the five health regions in B.C., the only one with a higher rate is Northern Health, which saw a drop from 307 to 214 per 100,000.

There are 817 active cases in the Interior Health region, and there have been a total of 252 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

There were 36 COVID-19 related deaths across B.C. in the most recent week of data, and 6 of the deaths were in Interior Health.

Between Sept. 26 to Oct. 2, nine of the deaths – 25% of the total – occurred in healthcare facilities, according to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control.

Currently there are four outbreaks at Interior Health care homes. An outbreak was most recently declared at Haven Hill Retirement Centre in Penticton on Oct. 7. Other care home outbreaks are at Village by the Station in Penticton, and Overlander and Cottonwoods Care Centre in Kamloops.

Across the province there have been a total of 2,055 deaths. The average rate of death in B.C. has been steady in the three weeks prior to Oct. 2, ranging between 36 and 39 deaths per week. Also remaining consistent is the number of hospital and ICU admissions, which for the past four weeks have ranged between 263 to 274 weekly hospital admissions, and 58 to 70 weekly ICU admissions.

Among those 12 and older, 82% of British Columbians are fully vaccinated and 89% have received at least one dose.

A total of 8,025,356 vaccines have been administered in B.C. to date.
