There has been an outbreak of COVID-19 on a surgical unit at the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.

Interior Health says in a media release as of this morning, June 30, seven patients have tested positive for the virus on unit 6 South.

No staff members have tested positive.

Surgeries are continuing and patients who have surgery will be cared for on a different floor, IH says.

The health authority says a team of infection control and communicable disease specialists, along with hospital staff are “meeting daily to ensure all measures are being taken to prevent transmission of the virus.”

“I want to assure everyone that the hospital remains safe for scheduled procedures, appointments and emergency care,” medical health officer Dr. Karin Goodison says in the release. “Our teams will now work together to contain this outbreak, and support patients who have tested positive for COVID-19.”
